What is Biodiversity, and How Does it Affect Our Food Choices?I like to say “guilt does not make good gravy.”
One of the best investments we can make with our food choices is to support biodiversity by purchasing heritage breeds and heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables.
Cheap food comes with hidden costs, and a bill we’ll all pay later.
This being the International Year of Biodiversity, its a good time to examine what this means and how it relates to being a Good Eater.
Biodiversity loss can be thought of in three ways:
The loss of species, extinction
The loss of genetic diversity within individual organisms
The destruction of ecosystems diversity – the loss of habitats
Each of these three has direct consequences for human beings, for our health, and for our ecosystems. Each also affects our food production and food security. Each is affected by the choices we make every day about the foods we eat.
One of the most current and topical examples of a biodiversity threat is the vanishing bluefin tuna. Whether we, as stewards of the planet and its oceans, will stop the depletion of our oceans and the loss of species like bluefin is still very much an open question.
You may feel that the loss of one species or another is inconsequential or has little relevance in your daily life. You may wonder why you should be concerned if the bluefin disappear forever. It’s far more complex an issue than simply being deprived of a favorite choice at the sushi bar. Did you hear, fish poo might save the planet?
The Journal Science measured the effects of marine excreted calcium carbonate on the ocean’s ability to absorb CO2 — the first connection between healthy fish populations and the ocean’s ability to stem global warming.
2010 the International Year of Biodiversity
The United Nations declared 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity. This was the target year to halt the rate of global biodiversity loss. Targets were not met globally and new information continues to underscore the urgent need for action.




Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR) is declared as UNISCO heritage site but still it is neglected and not proper judicial protocol is working. So please what we can do in this respect. It is one of the most wildlife site of India. A house of tiger, elephant, crocodile reading centre, diversity of animals & birds, , most valuable medicinal plants , lass green valley and perennial water resource.
If any individual, Organisation, institution, agency or funding, donor or bacterial funding agency interested to work and save our valuable biosphere resource from the anthropogenic threat. The Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR) is situated in centre of Mayurbhanj District and sate of Orissa ,India. . Please well come for the noble cause.

In the winter of 2007, Mayurbhanj Biological Research (MBR) introduced new initiatives aimed at young adults. MBR’s Youth Network was born!
Mayurbhanj Biological Research (MBR)’s Youth Network members are between the ages of 18 and 25. The Youth Network serves as a transition between MBR student programs (Global Youth Forum, Student Chapters, Student Ambassador Programs, Peace Camp, etc.) and MBR adult programs. Youth Network promote the mission of MBR’s international understanding, humanitarianism and cultural awareness, but are not confined to the traditional chapter structure.
Youth Network Programs are flexible in nature and adapt to members time constraints and interests. Programs offer the opportunity to reunite with fellow alumni, meet like-minded people and participate in humanitarian programming. Youth Network Programs also strive to meet a variety of interest levels. Introduction:

Mayurbhanj Biological Research (MBR) is a Scientific Research and Social, non-profit, non-political, non-religious, non- governmental charitable organization. MBR was established in 24th December 1999 with a view to conserve and research on the flora & fauna of Similipal, & the other Biosphere Reserves of India. With a motto of Protection of five “J’s” of Environment (Jal, jamin, Jungle, Jan, and Jeevan) in the course of time MBR got involved in Bioscientific activities for the interest of the Global people.

Legal Status of MBR: -

Mayurbhanj Biological Research (MBR) is registered under the Societies Registration ACT XXI of 1860 and FCRA Registration Under Section 6(1) of Foreign Contribution Act.1976 of Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, New Delhi.

Organisational Structure of MBR:

For smooth and better management of the Organisation it has a three-tier management set-up consisting of a General Body, an Executive Committee and programme Advisory Committee.

Operation Area of MBR:

MBR working India, it may be extended to any other part of Asian Country or any western country and or worldwide as and when required as per the scope of activities of the Association and decision of the Executive Committee of MBR.
Target Group:

(i)Agricultural labour, (ii) Land less labour, (iii)Small and Marginal farmers,(iv)Disabled, (v) Scheduled Cast,(vi)Tribals, (vii) Women,(viii)Children, (ix)Articians,(x)Student/Teachers/Professors, (xi) Others Vo(s), NGO’s, University, Research Institute etc..

The mission of MBR is to assimilate and share knowledge about nature with a systematic approach in order to improve scientific values through education, health, agriculture, biotechnology, molecular biology, Bioscience activities, economic development, energy, build insights, and enable individual and collective advancement in scientific research and study of biological diversity and conservation of complex environment and social issues facing society today throughout the world.

Our Approach:
MBR is geared to act quickly with minimum bureaucracy, ensuring that assistances reaches the field, where it needed the most, as soon as possible. provide relief in conflict etc., are the major approaches to promote conservation of biodiversity. By joining together with communities, businesses, governments, donor, funding agency, university, NGO’s, Trust’s, partner organizations, indigenous people and communities, we can preserve our lands and waters for future generations to use and enjoy.
Objectives:
· To improve the /build up public awareness, documentation and information dissemination activities; conduct research and develop understanding of environmental issue of five “J” (Jal, jamin, Jungle, Jan, Jeevan) and wildlife (Plants and Animals) with a view to promote conservation and intelligence use of Natural resources and also to create gainful employment opportunity for the tribal and rural inhabitants through agrobase cottage industry at the local level in accordance with the need of the society.
· To conduct research in the field of Biotechnology, Molicular Biology and Agro technology to provide better health care and Nutritious food to the country man.
· To conduct motivational and skill based technical training in order to promote self-employment among the unemployed youth, women, tribal and other weaker section of the community.etc

Major Activities:

· To improve the /build up public awareness on environmental issue, agriculture, need and importance of conservation of Biodiversity and other Natural Resource for the benefit of mankind, through mass campaign, seminar, meeting, workshop and rally and action base research and development programme etc.
· Documentation of important issue relating to environment, agriculture ,conservation of natural resources, health hazards, disasters etc in order to develop strong foundation for the dissemination of information and promotion of communication relation to above area (i).
· Conduct workshop, training programme and field visit to create export and skill hands and enrich experience in order to make the community member self-sufficient to face the challenges of life.
· Conduct research in the field of Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Agro technology to provide better health care and Nutritious food to the countryman, etc

MBR implement the Rural Bio energy program  in Similipal The 9th Biosphere Reserve of India.

Samir Kumar Sahu, Executive Director /Founder of Mayurbhanj Biological Research(MBR) with one of the Beneficiary Mr Bijaya Singh with his family member and his Mother standing near the newly develop bio gas Plant in Chandan Chaturi village in Dukura forest Range of Mayurbhanj District of Orissa.

With project am is to reduce the dependence of fuel woods of Similipal Tiger Reserve so by the Socioeconomic condition also increase in the local community.The program is ongoing if any interested to support our moment and support us in term of funds, volunteer service or involve with us mostly welcome.
Larger funds will be needed to rehabilitates the forest and the dependent to save our nature for future generation to come.
